Mayor's Welcome Letter

#

Welcome to the City of York's web site. If you are a visitor to York, I would like to welcome you on behalf of the citizens of York. You should find many useful links and information about York on this website. If you are a resident, you will find this site a helpful resource for all things relating to City government.

York has several interesting projects scheduled for 2008, which, when completed, will make York a better place to live and work. Among those projects are two new housing developments: Karashow Ridge Subdivision, located 3/4 miles south of Nobes Road on Grant Avenue, will have 10 new single family residential lots; and Peters Sunrise Estates Subdivision, located north of Minck's Park and east of Washington Avenue, will have 34 new single family residential lots.

With the completion of the Highway 81 by-pass around York in 2006, the State of Nebraska has begun the process of relinquishing or "giving back" to the City the highway traffic lanes in the city limits, previously designated as Highway 81, Highway 34 and State Spur 93D (running from Grant Avenue west to the City limits). Prior to this relinquishment, the State will resurface all of thse roadways this summer. Simutaneously, the City will resurface all of the parking lanes in these areas. Along with this project, the State is going to rejunvenate the Burlington Northern underpass on Lincoln Avenue. This will include resurfacing and improving the drainage problem and restoring the concrete and metal parts of the structure.

2008 will also see the start of the Nebraska Avenue improvement project from 1st Street to 14th Street with a new concrete surface, storm sewer, curb and gutter. This project will most likely last for more than just the 2008 construction season.

All of these projects will undoubtedly cause some headaches for the businesses, homeowners and visitors to the affected areas. The City will try its utmost to complete these prjoects as efficiently as possible.
