Water Quality

Annual Report
  • The Safe Drinking Water Act requires all water systems to report to their customers annually on the quality of the water they are supplying. This report tells the customer about all the testing that has been conducted over the past year and any non-compliance issues. The City of York proudly presents its Annual Water Quality Report.

Water System Test Results
  • Twelve wells contribute the City of York water system. Initial test results available, provide a profile of the water delivered to the tap.

Backflow Prevention
  • The City of York, by Ordinance, has a comprehensive Backflow Prevention Program. It requires the ongoing participation of all customers to help protect the public water supply from unwanted substances coming from the faucet.

  • Customers are contacted every five years to do an inspection of their property and fill out a survey form to make sure there is no possible cross-connection that could cause a problem should a backflow situation occurs. Customers with lawn sprinkler systems or heating boilers have testable devices in place to protect the public water system. These customers are contacted when it is time to have these devices tested.

  • Customers are encouraged to contact the public works department should they have any questions or concerns regarding the program: 402-363-2600.

Water Conservation
  • Customers are encouraged to conserve water usage. This not only keeps the bill down, but also preserves the water resources the City of York enjoys.

    1. Make sure the toilet is in good operating condition

    2. Refrain from using the toilet as a wastebasket--flushes use a lot of water

    3. Keep faucets in good repair--a small drip can use more water than we think

    4. Schedule lawn sprinklers to run for shorter periods and fewer times per week

    5. Use a broom to sweep the sidewalk instead of the hose

Industrial Users
  • The Utility Department welcomes the opportunity to provide your industry with water and sewer service. Contact the Director of Public Works at 402-363-2600 for availability and development costs, and fees.
